Kustom The Defender 5W Class A Guitar Amp Head

  • 18 Watts
  • When turning the Volume control down to get cleaner tones, Duo-Mod(TM) progressively reduces gain in multiple locations throughout the preamp circuit. The result is stunning clarity, even on medium-gain sounds that often sound lackluster in other amp designs. Then, when adding gain, Duo-Mod brings it on in multiple locations. The result is smoking hot rock tones with punch and clarity that simply blow away the competition.

Crate Blackheart BH100H Hot Head Guitar Amp Head, 100W All Tube with Attitude

Crate Blackheart BH100H Hot Head Guitar Amp Head, 100W All Tube with Attitude

  • 100 Watts, Class A or Class AB Operation
  • Class AB 100 Watts RMS in (Full Power) Pentode Mode,
  • 50 Watts RMS in (Half Power) Triode Mode
  • Class A 60 Watts RMS in (Full Power) Pentode Mode,
  • 30W RMS in (Half Power) Triode Mode

Blackheart Engineering? instruments are all tube, old-school amplifiers that are built like tanks and sound as good as amps costing multiple times the price. They look cool, they exude attitude and they don’t EVER compromise toneTalk about corruptive power. The New Blackheart Eng Hothead takes the basic plug and play attitude of a world-class 100-watt workhorse head and puts just enough thoughtful features on it to be the most flexible amp in its class, not to mention several classes up. Two Power Modes (Class AB and Class A) divisible by Pentode (full power) and Triode (half power) operation put four unique, classic and powerful voices right at your fingertips and you won’t need a Ph.D to get amazing tone; whether it’s searing rock your face off at full volume riff work or plucky, responsive Class A blues when you’re felling all deep and stuff.

Awesome Power, Awesome Flexibility Two simple switches open up an endless world of tonal possibilities.

  • Class AB/Pentode: 100W of flesh searing power
  • Class AB/Triode: 50W, tighter headroom, crisper gain, still hurts
  • Class A/Pentode: 60W, lots of headroom before overdrive, nice and plucky
  • Class A/Triode: 30W, less headroom, more responsive to your attack

All this before you dial in a brilliantly tuned EQ section and reign it all in through the Master Volume and Master Presence controls.

Two-Channels, Separate EQs: The Hothead has two channels (Loud and F’N Loud), each selectable by a mini toggle on the faceplate or remotely via the included footswitch and each voiced through its own, dedicated EQ section. No more switching from one sound to the same sound in the middle of your jam. Dial in two distinct voices and rock on.

  1. The LOUD Channel (aka “One”) is voiced to range from Crisp Cleans to Classic Rock and Heavy Blues tones. Controls: Drive, Level, Treble, Middle, Bass
  2. The F’N LOUD Channel (aka “Two”) is voiced to capture Classic Crunch to Sweet Overdriven Lead tones. Controls: Gain, Level, Treble, Middle, Bass

Tube Effects Loop/Boost Function with Level Control:
Both channels share a Tube Driven Effects Loop that can be run in series or parallel modes (selectable by mini toggle on the amp’s rear panel) and then hard bypassed, doubling as a footswitch-activated boost. Send and Return controls act as expected when in Effects loop Mode but allow you to tweak your Boost Volume when your effects are hard bypassed. Admit it…that’s cool.

Specifications

  • 100 Watts, Class A or Class AB Operation
  • Pentode/Triode Switch
  • Power Output: Class AB – 100 Watts RMS in (Full Power) Pentode Mode, 50 Watts RMS in (Half Power) Triode Mode, Class A – 60 Watts RMS in (Full Power) Pentode Mode, 30W RMS in (Half Power) Triode Mode
  • Two Channels: Channel 1 (LOUD) voiced for Crisp Cleans to Classic Rock and Heavy Blues tones (Drive, Level, Treble, Middle and Bass controls), Channel 2 (F’IN LOUD) voiced to capture Classic Crunch to Sweet Overdriven Lead tones (Gain, Level, Treble, Middle and Bass controls)
  • Master Controls (shared by both channels): Master Presence, Master Volume
  • Effects Loop: Tube Driven, shared by both channels, can be operated in Series or Parallel Mode

Crate Blackheart BH1H Killer Ant Guitar Amp head, <1W All Tube with Attitude

Crate Blackheart BH1H Killer Ant Guitar Amp head, <1W All Tube with Attitude

  • <1 Watt RMS, Single-Ended, Class A
  • Outputs: 1 x 16 ohm jack, 1 x 8 ohm jack, 1 x 4 ohm jack
  • Solid State Rectifier
  • Volume (the rest of the tone is in your hands)
  • DC Power to filaments for super quiet operation

Blackheart Engineering? instruments are all tube, old-school amplifiers that are built like tanks and sound as good as amps costing multiple times the price. They look cool, they exude attitude and they don’t EVER compromise toneThe followup to Blackheart Engineering’s Little Giant 5, the Killer Ant is the first attainable, boutique quality fractional tube amp. Featuring Class A, Single Ended circuitry, it delivers the complete, classic, touch responsive tube tone you need but at more manageable volumes for apartment dwellers and recording sessions.

Designed on a beer stained cocktail napkin, prototyped, built and tested in a one car garage in Austin, TX, and engineered to the same strict standards as the Little Giant 5, this “little head” delivers the tones, the smells and the attitude you want when sonic bliss is everything and volume needs to be kept at bay. The Killer Ant embraces 100% classic all tube circuitry but, instead of a high power tube output section, it boasts a clever, all tube power block pumping out a mere fraction of 1W. What you get is arena rock tone at bedroom levels. No more angry neighbors, whining wives or girlfriends (or both…just sayin’).

Like its big bro, it features completely overbuilt component specs, from 1W resistors in the signal path to double sided PCB with 2 oz traces. Even its diminutive cabinet, just over palm sized, is built to take a beating with 15 ply (18mm) void-free wood covered expertly in durable black tolex. Final touches include distinctive white piping accents and a salt & pepper cloth covered front baffle. 4, 8 and 16-ohm extension speaker jacks allow you to hook the Ant into virtually any cab you like, including a 4 X 12. However, its counterpart, the Killer Cab, is designed to be its perfect soul mate.

Blackheart Engineering? instruments are all tube, old-school amplifiers that are built like tanks and sound as good as amps costing multiple times the price. They look cool, they exude attitude and they don’t EVER compromise toneDesigned and prototyped in a one car garage in Austin, Texas, by none other than amp savant, Pyotr Belov, the Handsome Devil evokes classic tube tones more than reminiscent of the great American and British, plug and play workhorses that laid the foundation for Rock and Roll guitar tone starting in the ’60s. Just like its predecessor and little brother, the Little Giant 5, the BHE Handsome Devil is overbuilt to last with features and components you’d expect on a hand built, much more expensive piece of gear. Both the head and combo feature dual power modes allowing the Gods of Rock to dial in responsiveness and headroom in either 15W or 7W output. Separate Master and Level controls put both awesome power and responsibility in the unwashed hands of mankind. 3 Bands of well-tuned EQ make for nearly infinite voicing. From big fat overdrive to plucky, just-about-to-squeal if you hit me a little harder grease, the Handsome Devil covers classic tube tone with as few knob turns as possible through a well thought out set of features in a tough as a tank package.

As expected, you get the simple elegance and robust component specs that mark BHE’s designs. From 1W, carbon-film resistors in the signal path to beefy, double sided pcb with 2 oz traces, 16 gauge, precision folded and welded chassis and mutli-ply, classically joined cabinetry, Blackheart is as serious about quality as they are about tone.

Available in a surprisingly compact head or single (but looking) 12″ combo (BH15-112) featuring the specially designed 1216B Eminence speaker developed by Blackheart Engineering and Eminence Speakers.
