I don’t particularly like bright sounding strings, and I have caustic hands, so I much prefer Vintage Bronze (an 85/15 mix) to the more common 80/20 bronze formulation. 85/15 bronze strings wear well, and sound good until they’re well & truly ‘dead’.
I also really like the feel of this Medium-Light (ML) set, .012 to .054.
EXCEPT … why Dean Markley chose a .015 for this set’s B-string is baffling. The .015 is ANEMIC compared to the 5 other strings of this set. It’s not just me — most vendors’ *light* gauge sets usually employ a .016 B (as did the late lamented D’Addario EZ-920 — and, as long as we’re picking nits, I do miss the color-coded ball ends of the D’Addario. Tho’ all-brass ends are probably ‘greener’ than plastic).
I contacted Dean Markley to inquire about custom sets — no response. So, for each set of ML 2004 that I buy, I also get a single .016 B string. Inelegant, but it works.
So, in sum, a fine set of strings at a good price, as long as you find a reasonably-priced source for single .016 strings.
