Gibson Acoustic Acoustic Icon '50s Southern Jumbo Burst Acoustic Guitar Vintage Sunburst

Gibson Acoustic Acoustic Icon '50s Southern Jumbo Burst Acoustic Guitar Vintage Sunburst

$2,599.00

The Acoustic Icon Southern Jumbo is a guitar with initial beginnings that are something of a legend at Gibson. It seems that shortly after the introduction of the classic Gibson J-45, guitar players south of the Mason-Dixon line wanted a guitar like the J-45, but with more class, and more style. The Southern Jumbo was an acoustic guitar created to fill that demand. The guitar recreated in the Gibson Acoustic Icon guitar series reflects the Southern Jumbo of the mid-to-late '50s, after the guitar was updated from a 19-fret to a 20-fret neck. The Southern Jumbo is a J-45 decked out in its Sunday best! Mother-of-pearl parallelogram inlays grace a beautiful imported Rosewood fingerboard. The guitar body is hand built using select, solid Honduran mahogany for the back and sides. The solid spruce top is AAA grade. To give the guitar more class the back of the guitar flaunts 5-ply binding, while the top gets 4-ply. The fingerboard is bound, too, to provide additional playing comfort. The rosette around the soundhole was given the full treatment: 10-ply binding!Top bracing is top grade spruce as well, all hand scalloped to be lightweight, yet strong. The bracing is arrayed in Gibson s vintage-style X pattern, bringing the bracing a little closer to the soundhole. This allows greater top movement during play, thus enhancing the guitar s ability to project in a powerful, yet articulate fashion. The 1-piece mahogany neck has a gentle, rounded profile, and is hand set with Gibson s time-proven double-dovetail neck joint for unmatched stability. The bone nut is 1.725 wide, in the Gibson tradition. The headstock receives the Gibson scroll logo, inlayed in mother-of-pearl, along with the period correct Gibson crown inlay. The 3-in-line tuning machines with ebony buttons add a unique touch of style. Leaving nothing to chance, the saddle is also bone for maximum transmission of string vibration, and is installed on a top-grade Indian rosewood bridge. The Acoustic Icon Southern Jumbo guitar is finished in what Gibson calls a Tri-Burst color similar to the vintage sunburst color used on many Gibson guitar today, but with a hint of red in the final color burst like Gibson used in the post WW II time frame. The final finish coats are Nitrocellulose lacquer, just as Gibson has used since 1894. This unique lacquer allows the wood to breathe and open up over time. Many experts agree that these guitars actually continue to improve in sound and tone as they age! The final touch of historic accuracy is the serial number. It s stamped on the inside of the neck block, just as is was back then. Rounding out the package is a custom, form-fit hardshell case, and signed Gibson certificate of authenticity. The 50 s Southern Jumbo is but one guitar in the Gibson Acoustic Icon guitar series. These guitars were carefully researched and developed for us exclusively, and are available as a limited edition.

Gibson Acoustic Acoustic Icon '60s B-25 Acoustic Guitar Heritage Cherry Sunburst

Gibson Acoustic Acoustic Icon '60s B-25 Acoustic Guitar Heritage Cherry Sunburst

$2,299.00

The Gibson Acoustic Icon '60s B-25 is a small-bodied acoustic guitar that delivers big bluesy sound. And just because it s smaller doesn t mean Gibson skimps in the B-25 guitar's construction. The neck is one-piece, solid Honduran mahogany, with a gently rounded profile for comfort. It s topped with a fingerboard of hand selected Indian rosewood. The 20-fret board has a 24.75 scale. Position markers are mother-of-pearl dots. The bridge is Indian rosewood, too. The saddle is adjustable, just as it was back then. Starting in the mid-'50s small body guitars saw a big resurgence of popularity. Some of this was brought on by used guitars from the 30 s now being relatively inexpensive, and readily found. The real increase of growth in these small-body guitars was the popular growth of acoustic blues music. Small-bodied Gibson acoustic guitars have always been popular among acoustic blues guitarists, ever since Robert Johnson made a deal with you-know-who at that Mississippi crossroads. By the '60s, blues artists like Johnny Shines and Furry Lewis among others were recording their music with Gibson B-25s. Why you may ask? The B-25 s DNA goes right back to those guitars of the 30 s. The B-25 guitar s small body (14.125 wide x 19.25 long x 4.5 deep) made it an easy guitar to travel with. This small body, composed of solid Honduran mahogany back and sides along with a top-grade solid Sitka spruce top, produced a warm, woody tone that lent itself well to blues and folk music. The internal bracing is scalloped by hand. Scalloping significantly reduces the weight and mass of the braces, without taking away strength. This allows better motion to the top, and greatly enhances the guitar s projection. The B-25 guitar sounds bigger than it is! Back in the '60s, the red pigments used in the color coats were not stable. The original B-25 guitars were finished in a Heritage Cherry Sunburst color, that within a few years gently faded to a softer, warm honey color. The Acoustic Icon B-25 featured here is pre-faded to that warm color right from Gibson. Of course, the final finish is nitrocellulose lacquer, which is not only beautiful, but actually adds to the sound of the instrument by allowing the wood to breathe and open up over time. Finally, Gibson includes a custom, form-fit hardshell case and a signed certificate of authenticity with the Acoustic Icon '60s B-25 guitar.

Even the pickguard uses the original firestripe pattern! The Nick Lucas Acoustic Icon guitar is supplied with a custom-fitted case, and a certificate of authenticity. The Nick Lucas guitar is part of a very limited production run from Gibson called the Acoustic Icon series, and it is only available while supplies last. In the late 1920 s we didn t have guitar heroes like we do today. The country was settling into what would become a long and difficult economic depression. Folks lucky enough to own a radio, gathered around it in the evening to listened to radio drama and ragtime music. It wasn t long before a special guitar player came to be noticed. A player who took the guitar from being a background instrument, and brought it to the foreground. That guitar player was Nick Lucas. Nick s recording career went from the '20s to the '80s with over 80-million records sold.Back in the '20s most guitars were small-bodied mahogany parlor guitars, meant for genteel, in-home use, to relax with a fine cigar and cognac after dinner. While those small guitars sounded good, they didn t suit the sound that Nick Lucas was seeking. Nick wanted a sound that would cut through the orchestra, and make the guitar a lead instrument. In 1927, Nick approached Gibson with his idea: create a small guitar, perfect for finger-picking, but give it a voice more powerful than any guitar on the market. Gibson did just that, and introduced the Nick Lucas model in their 1928 catalog, thus making this guitar the world s first signature model. What made this model different from all the others? This guitar offered a deeper body (4 at the neck, 4 5/8" at the end pin) than any guitar on the planet at that time. Plus, the back and sides were made from hand-selected figured Eastern hard rock maple at a time when most guitars offered only mahogany bodies. Additionally, the AAA grade solid Sitka spruce top was carefully radiused or arched to give the top more tension and better projection. Most other guitars of the day offered only a flat top. This guitar quickly became one of the all-time great acoustic guitar designs. Today, vintage Nick Lucas models command top dollar from collectors and professional players.

The neck is mahogany, fully bound, with a rosewood fingerboard, and Les Paul-style mother-of-pearl trapezoid inlays, just like the original. In the late '40s, electric guitars were just starting to become popular. The early electric guitars didn t sound all that good, and the amps available were primitive. The vast majority of guitar players played acoustic guitars. If they needed to plug in their options sounded really bad! Gibson was listening to what their customers wanted. They were looking for an acoustic-electric guitar. In 1951, Gibson delivered!Introducing the 1951 Gibson CF-100E-the world s first true acoustic-electric guitar! Based on the then popular CF-100 model, Gibson added a P-90 single coil pickup, mounted just above the sound hole. They added a volume and tone control on the top for easy access. To make things even better, the CF-100E sported a sharp, Florentine cutaway for easy access to the upper frets. The guitar-playing world had never seen anything like it before! Gibson had created an entirely new category of guitar! To further complement this retro package, the hallowed Gibson P-90 pickup is mounted just above the soundhole, controlled by volume and tone controls, with Gibson Speed Knobs, again, just as in 51. Gibson Acoustic J-250 Monarch Acoustic Guitar Vintage Sunburst

Gibson Acoustic J-250 Monarch Acoustic Guitar Vintage Sunburst

$17,349.99

A true Monarch among guitars, the J-250 acoustic is one of the most dazzling instruments ever built by Gibson (or anybody else). Rich HeritageThe artisans at Gibson took the iconic crown inlays of the J-200 fretboard and headstock and made them even more regal and realistic looking to represent the class and rich heritage of the Monarch. Both have extremely intricate inlay patterns that are executed with incredible precision containing multiple inlays within inlays of mother-of-pearl and Paua abolone.Hand-crafted DetailingThe delicate volute at the hand stop at the rear of the headstock is hand executed on equally matched bound ebony, It is veneered with the instrument s serial number displayed in the banners of the mother-of-pearl inlay. The Quintessence of QualityThe extra fretboard ebony binding harkens back to the classiest guitars of the Jazz era of the thirties. The complete coverage of body joints with extra wide Paua shell, a three-piece back, and a new floral tortoise pickguard engraving are all done to surpass all fine guitars including the flagship model J-200.Regal PresentationFinely detailed appointments on this classy instrument: multi-ply body binding with abalone inlay, ebony moustache bridge with abalone inlays, and gold tuners all come together to unfold in a regal visual presentation. Sublimely sophisticated tone emanates from the guitar's solid select Sitka spruce top and Madagascar rosewood back and sides. The Eastern Curly Maple neck provides additional warm resonance. We could sell many more a year, but the selection criteria for materials and the extra time to build keep the J-250 Monarch s numbers low, making each instrument very special.
